Conformance Target: Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — in active implementation as of January 2026
Our Commitment
Neuroscience Specialists, P.C. is committed to ensuring that our website, neurosurg.org, is accessible to all users, including individuals with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive disabilities. We believe that every patient and visitor deserves equal access to healthcare information.
We are actively working to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, as established by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This standard is also required under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), including HHS Section 504 Final Rule requirements that take effect May 11, 2026.
Measures We Have Taken
To support accessibility, Neuroscience Specialists has implemented the following measures on this website:
- Semantic HTML5 structure with appropriate landmark roles (
nav, main, header, footer, section) - All images include descriptive
alt text; decorative images are marked with aria-hidden="true" - Interactive FAQ accordion components use
role="button", aria-expanded, and aria-controls attributes to communicate state to screen readers - Keyboard navigation is supported for all interactive elements including FAQ accordions, navigation menus, and forms
- Color contrast ratios meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA requirements (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
- Page language is declared (
lang="en") to support screen reader pronunciation - Navigation landmarks include
aria-label attributes to distinguish multiple navigation regions - Form inputs are associated with visible labels
- Focus styles are visible for keyboard users
- The website is responsive and functional at 200% browser zoom
Known Limitations
While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, we are aware of the following areas where we continue to improve:
- Embedded physician biography images: Some legacy base64-embedded images on physician profile pages may have incomplete alt text descriptions. We are reviewing and updating these on a rolling basis.
- PDF patient forms: Patient intake forms referenced on this website are hosted as PDFs. PDF accessibility varies; we can provide these forms in alternative formats upon request.
- Third-party patient portal: Our patient portal (InteliChart) is operated by a third-party vendor. While we have requested accessibility conformance documentation from our vendor, we cannot guarantee full WCAG 2.1 AA compliance within the portal itself. Contact us if you need assistance accessing portal features.
Technical Specifications
This website relies on the following technologies for conformance:
- HTML5
- CSS3
- JavaScript (for interactive components such as FAQ accordions and navigation)
The website has been tested for accessibility using the following approaches:
- Automated testing with browser-based accessibility evaluation tools
- Manual keyboard navigation testing
- Screen reader testing using VoiceOver (macOS/iOS) and NVDA (Windows)
- Color contrast analysis using WCAG contrast ratio evaluation tools
