Your Appointment

Preparing for
Your First Visit

Knowing what to expect makes your first appointment more productive. Here's exactly how to prepare and what will happen when you arrive.

Before You Arrive

What to Bring

1
Complete your patient forms
Download and complete new patient paperwork before your visit, or arrive 20 minutes early to complete them at check-in.
2
Bring a valid photo ID
A government-issued photo ID is required for all new patient registrations.
3
Bring your insurance card
We will need to verify your coverage before your visit. If you have a workers' compensation claim, bring your claim number and carrier information.
4
Bring all prior imaging on disc
MRI, CT, and X-ray discs — not just printed reports. We read our own films. If you have had prior spine imaging, the actual disc is essential.
5
Bring a list of your medications
Include all current prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and supplements with dosages.
6
Write down your questions
You will have time during your consultation. A written list ensures you don't forget anything important.
During Your Visit

What Happens

Your consultation will be with a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurosurgeon — not a nurse practitioner or physician assistant. Plan for approximately 45–60 minutes for a new patient consultation, though complex cases may take longer.

Medical history review

Your surgeon will review all prior records, imaging, and your description of symptoms in detail.

Physical examination

A neurological and musculoskeletal examination will be performed to evaluate your strength, reflexes, and sensation.

Imaging review

Any imaging you bring will be reviewed by your surgeon. If additional imaging is needed, orders will be placed.

Your diagnosis & plan

You will receive a clear explanation of your diagnosis and a recommendation — which may include conservative care, additional testing, or surgical consultation.

Workers' compensation patients: Please bring your claim number, insurance carrier information, and any prior authorization if required. Let us know when scheduling that your visit is workers' comp-related.
